2016 Bridal Make Up Tips

Unlike your dress which you buy far in advance before your big day, you can keep up to date with make-up trends weeks before your big day. Make sure to try out lots of different looks during your makeup trial as you may be surprised what suits you! Here’s our top 2016 Bridal Make Up Tips.

Bridal Make Up – Lips

Ombré lips

Let’s start of on what your lips should look like on your big day. Many brides opt for the nude look as it is the cleanest option and wont spread after that big kiss!

Take a risk with a Marlin Monroe favourite – an ombré li. Match this bombshell look with simple eye makeup and classic wavy hair to create an old Hollywood style look. This will definitely take your guests by surprise and those crimson lips will look stunning in all of your wedding photos – just make sure to have Kleenex at the ready for wiping your new husband’s lips! This look was a big favourite at Badgley Mischka Bridal Spring collection.

Gloss Lips

Lip gloss has made a big comeback in 2016 with brands like Kylie Cosmetics releasing new products. Lip gloss can be great for a wedding look as it’s simple and photographs wonderfully – make sure for this one to keep your hair up and out of your face.  A pink lip gloss can be a great alternative to nude if you are wanting to add a hint of colour to your ensemble. Ines Di Santo used this on the Spring 2016 bridal catwalks and paired pink lip gloss with rosy cheeks to create a soft summery look.

Colour Lips

The two designers mentioned above weren’t the only ones to bring in a coloured lip this season with Jenny Packham loving the trend her make up artist team used;  Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Color in Spiced Rose (£21) mixed with Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Coral Reef (£22).

Bridal Eye Make Up

Eye Gloss

It’s not just lip gloss that is trending this season but eye gloss is also one of the major trends seen on the bridal catwalk. A simple shimmery eye would look stunning on your wedding day and it’s also be great for the bridal party. Bobbi Brown used this super glowing look at the Angel Sanchez show matching a metallic wet-looking shadow with a rosy pink lip gloss

Coloured Eye Looks

Every bride wants to stand out on their wedding day and taking a risk with colour can seem daunting! This year Purple eyeliner and fuchsia pink eyeshadow rocked the bridal run way and looked stunning against the while canvas dresses.

Carolina Herrera used maroon make up tones making her models stand out on the run way. Create a Coachella dream at your wedding and match these vibrant looks with floral hair bands and retro waves.

Wedding Day Eyebrows

The eyebrow trend is still crucial on your wedding day. Going for a Cara Delevingne look doesn’t mean you will look back and regret it in years to come, big brows in timeless think of Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor!

To get a look which will really make your eyes makeup stand out, firstly fill in the brows to achieve the shape you want then add a powder on top. Try to stay away from lots of colour on your lids with this look and compliment it with natural nudes and browns. This look is the most natural way of enhancing your eyes on your wedding day while adding creating a super on trend makeup look.

Retro Bridal Looks

Galia Lahav took us right back to the 1970’s with her bridal look at this year’s spring bridal shows. The festival look is becoming much more popular at weddings with brides and designers taking inspiration from festivals like Coachella. Galia Lahav steered clear from pleats and braids and used teased curls to create a super girly look. The makeup team matches this with a sexy light smoky eye which looked gorgeous on the runway.

Matching your makeup and hair look is important, make sure both your hairdresser and make-up artist know exactly what you want before your big day!

Highlight Bridal Make Up

We love that highlighter was one of the biggest wedding trends in 2015 and its still going strong this year. Create a super dewy look with  illuminator and highlighter together – this will look great at any beach or summer wedding. One of our favourite make up looks for 2016 had to be on the Lela Rose runway. Lela Rose created a glowing bridal look at her show fusing some of this year’s biggest makeup trends together. The team mixed pinks on eyelids, cheeks and lips with a subtle highlighter, making it one of the trendiest looks this year.

Bride and Groom

Remember not to leave your bridal make up to the last minute! Make up artists can be booked at least a year in the advance. We would also recommend booking a bridal make up artist who will travel to you – meaning less stress on your big day! Looking for more tips and trends, have a look at our blog!
